The Visakha women’s football team has announced their determination to defeat Phnom Penh Crown in this Saturday’s final of the Cambodian Women’s League.

Kicking off at 4pm at the old stadium, the women of the Visakha squad are looking forward to their chance to lift the trophy for the first time.

The final will also be something of a grudge match, with the teams each claiming one win from their previous to encounters.

Visakha triumphed 2-1 at home in their first match, before going down 4-0 to Crown in the away leg.

Visakha captain Hear Sreylas acknowledged that reaching the final was a major accomplishment, but noted that the team had worked hard to get there, and was committed to battling for a win.

Hear Sreylas, the central defender for Visakha, said, “We know that every match is difficult, and it’s not easy to reach the final, so this game is very important for us. We are committed to doing our best and fighting hard to win for the team,” said the tough-as-nails defender.

Goalkeeper Penh Boravy also demonstrated her confindence.

During the team’s most recent match she was excellent, ensuring a clean sheet throughout regular time. After the clock wound down with the score at 0-0, she was outstanding in the penalty shootout, and was named Player of the Match after helping Visakha take a 4-3 win.

“My teammates and I have been preparing for the final game, and we are all determined to do our best and give everything we’ve got for the team,” she said.

However, current form suggests the squad may be facing an uphill battle in their quest to claim their debut title.

Crown have been exceptional throughout the regular season, winning 16 games, drawing one and suffering just one defeat. This meant they finished the season on top of the table, with 49 points.

Visakha finished second on 43 points, with 14 wins, two draws and two losses.

Nagaworld finished in third, on 40 points, followed by Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng, on 39.

Ahead of the final, Crown took to social media to announce that they are fully prepared for the match and look forward to “performing well”.

The odds may favour Crown, but the passion of the Visakha women will take some beating.
