Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC have brought in two additional Brazilian forwards to strengthen their squad as they prepare for the final stages of their defence of the Cambodian Premier League (CPL), as well as final 8-team stage of the AFC Challenge League.

The club has stressed that current star forward Pablo Augusto remains part of their future plans, even though he is currently sidelined due to injury.

On February 13, Svay Rieng brought in Brazilian winger Breno Caetano, and followed up with the February 17 signing of his fellow countryman, forward Matheus Moresche.

This brings the number of Brazilians at the club to five. Two Japanese players and one from Laos complete the club’s non-Cambodian roster.

Caetano has been recruited solely for the club’s AFC Challenge campaign, while Moresche will replace forward Pablo in the remaining matches of the CPL.

“Pablo is currently undergoing treatment for his injury and will need at least six weeks to recover. Therefore, Matheus will replace him for the remaining matches in the Cambodian Premier League. However, Pablo is still part of our team and will participate in the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Cup and the AFC Challenge League,” the club clarified, in a February 17 statement.

In addition, 1.80-metre-tall forward Moresche will join the squad for the final 8-team stage of the AFC Challenge League. Svay Rieng will play two legs against Myanmar’s Shan United in March.

Moresche, who has played in leagues in Brazil, Belarus (Belarusian Premier League), Singapore (Singapore Premier League), Australia (A-League Men) and China (China League One), expressed his excitement about playing in the CPL for the first time.

He declared that he was impressed by Cambodia, the team and the training facilities. “I’m very happy to be here with the team, and I will try my best to succeed with them,” he said.

“Svay Rieng is amazing. It’s a great team in the league, and the whole team has a good playing style, especially with Coach Pep, who comes from Spain. That’s one of the reasons I came here, as it’s great for players who like to control the ball a lot,” added the 26-year-old.

He explained that while conditions in the Kingdom are sometimes challenging for foreign players, especially in April, his past experience playing in Brazil and Singapore means that it won’t be a problem for him to adapt.

Wearing the number 98 jersey, he hoped to achieve success with his new teammates.

“I will give 100%! Although I’m not fully at 100% right now, I think I will be there in about a week. I will try to score as many goals as possible and play well with the other Brazilian players. I hope everything will go according to plan,” he said.
