Two-time Hun Sen Cup winners Preah Khan Reach have had their mid-season request for a name change accepted by the Football Federation of Cambodia and will be known as Svay Rieng Football Club from the start of second leg fixtures next month.
PKR were formed in 1997, when they assumed the name PM after their backing from the Military Police. After going by Krut Baitong, or Green Garuda, the side then switched to Preah Khan Reach, which translates as Royal Sword, in 2007.
New club president Dy Vichea is behind the latest name change after sending a letter of request to the FFC on April 3.
PKR are currently in second place in the Metfone C-League table on 16 points after eight games. They are eight points off the pace of front runners Boeung Ket Rubber Field, and one point above Cup holders Naga Corp.
Boeung Ket, meanwhile, have received the fixture list for the upcoming 2013 AFC President Cup group stage, which will be hosted by the reigning MCL champions at Olympic Stadium in two week’s time.
Boeung Ket will face Sri Lankan Army at 4:45pm on May 6 before taking on Turkmenistan heavyweights Balkan FC at 1:45pm two days later. The Cambodians will wrap up their campaign at 4:45pm on May 10 against Palestine side Hilal Al-Quds.
