Despite the major success he has achieved as head coach during his more than two-year stint in Cambodian football, Pep Munoz has decided to part ways with Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC at the end of this season, according to a statement released by the club on Tuesday morning.
“At the end of this season, Pep Munoz will step down from his role as head coach. Under his leadership, the club has achieved historic success in major competitions both domestically and internationally,” the club announced.
The entire membership of the club expressed their gratitude to Munoz and wished the Spanish coach continued success in the next stage of his football management career. The Kingdom’s football fans have reacted with widespread sadness upon hearing that the inspirational coach will be leaving Svay Rieng at season's end.
According to the statement, the upcoming 18th Hun Sen Cup final in 2025, scheduled for the evening of May 24 at Morodok Techo National Stadium, will be his last match in charge of Svay Rieng, as they face Phnom Penh Crown.
The club has called on all fans to come out in force for this final, to show their appreciation and support for Munoz.

Munoz himself regarded the final against Crown as the most important match of the season and hopes to see a strong fan presence — just as there was for the recent AFC Challenge League final against FK Arkadag on May 10.
“We hope that those who supported us in the AFC Challenge League final will again come and cheer for us in the Hun Sen Cup final, as this will be the last trophy on offer in Cambodian football this season,” he said.
“We hope that day will be a celebration of football for all Cambodians, and we hope to come out as champions,” he added, as he prepared to a consecutive Hun Sen Cup title.
Under his two-season tenure, Svay Rieng have won back-to-back Cambodian Premier League titles.
In the 2024/25 season, they topped the league with 76 points from 30 matches, ahead of Crown (72 points) and Visakha FC (65 points).
They also won the 2024/25 Super Cup and the 2023/24 Hun Sen Cup, with a possible repeat Hun Sen Cup title on the cards.
Notably, Munoz made history by becoming the first head coach to lead Svay Rieng to an international final, reaching the championship match of the AFC Challenge League (the third-tier Asian club competition).
Although Svay Rieng lost that final to FK Arkadag of Turkmenistan 2–1 after 120 minutes of play on May 10, fans were extremely satisfied with the team’s performance. Under Munoz’s direction, Svay Rieng pressed hard and dominated large stretches of the match but were simply unlucky not to score more.
In the ASEAN Club Championship (Shopee Cup) 2024/25, Svay Rieng finished third in their group stage pool.
