Young Cambodian rider Saly Filin has once again demonstrated his exceptional pace, claiming his third gold medal at the 2024 Water Jet World Series (WGP1) in the US.

His latest victory came during the second round of the competition on October 9m where Filin clinched gold in the Amateur Runabout 1100 Limited event, held on Lake Havasu, Arizona.

His ascension to the top of the podium is only part of a remarkable performance by Team Cambodia at the competition. In addition to his victory in the Amateur Runabout 1100 Limited class, Filin had already secured two other podium finishes in previous rounds, including a gold medal in the Amateur Runabout 1100 Stock and a silver medal in the Amateur Runabout Rec Lites category.

These impressive results mean Filin has now accumulated a total of three medals in the series. In a recent social media post, he shared his excitement and determination, stating, “We’re halfway to breaking the record!”

As he looks ahead, Filin remains hungry for more success. With three more events to go – Expert Runabout 1100 Stock, Expert Runabout 1100 Superstock and Pro Am 1100 Stock – Filin is aiming to win more medals and set a new career record.

His teammates have also been performing exceptionally well, with other notable achievements including Kay Vansiden's gold medal in the Novice Ski Stock category and Min Mustan’s silver in the Novice Runabout 1100 Stock. This brings Cambodia’s total medal count to five: Three golds and two silvers.

The team’s current results are an improvement on their results in round one of the competition, held in Poland, where they earned two golds, two silvers, and two additional placings. The team still has several more events to compete in, and the Cambodian athletes are eager to continue their success in the coming days.

Five of the Kingdom’s racers travelled to the US for this round of the competition, including Saly Filin, Kay Vansiden, Min Mustan, Min Osman and team leader Saly Oumoeut, a well-known and influential figure in Cambodia’s water jet sports community. The event kicked off on October 7 and will conclude on October 13.

The Cambodian team's outstanding performance has already turned heads, and they are determined to achieve even more wins on the water before the event wraps up.
