Renowned coach Eh Phouthong, known for developing talented fighters, has confidently shared that the upcoming title defences featuring his son A. AmarinPhouthong and the formidable Thoeun Theara will not disappoint fans.

The bouts, organized by Town Arena in Prey Veng province, are set for the evening of April 14 and will see Cambodian Kun Khmer fighters go head-to-head with Portuguese opponents.

Phouthong acknowledged Portugal’s strength in football, especially through superstar striker Cristiano Ronaldo. However, in terms of the five scheduled international matchups, he believed the Cambodian fighters will perform better and secure victory.

He is particularly focused on the title defences of his student Theara and his son Amarin, confident that both will rise to the occasion.

“I received notice of these title fights over a month ago, so we are well prepared. By fight night, they’ll be in peak condition,” he said.

In his last match, on March 28 in Siem Reap, Theara went three rounds against American fighter Max Crus, winning by points after a tough bout where he showed signs of fatigue — likely due to a four-month absence from the ring.

Phouthong addressed Theara’s perceived weaknesses.

“We already know that Theara tends to tire in long fights. His skills are still sharp, but his energy fades and he struggles to keep his hands and legs moving. However, under my training, he’s regaining his full strength,” he claimed.

As for his son’s preparations, his father stated they have been excellent.

“Amarin has been training nonstop, no gaps in his routine. He’s still working hard to ensure he gives a strong performance in Prey Veng,” he said.

Amarin affirmed that he’s been training intensely to defend the Dragon Kun Khmer title, which he has held for over two years.

“I was fully prepared for a title fight in Japan, but it was cancelled. I redirected my focus entirely toward this defence in Prey Veng. I’m ready. I’ll give it everything I’ve got and use my best techniques. That belt isn’t going anywhere — it’s staying in Cambodia,” he said.

“Regarding the title defences of Theara and Amarin in Prey Veng, I promise the local fans won’t be disappointed. I hope the event draws a big crowd and helps promote Kun Khmer to the world,” added Phouthong.

In the upcoming showdown, Theara will defend the Dragon Kun Khmer 73kg belt against Lucas Carlos Da Silva, while Amarin will defend the 66kg belt against Paulo Melo. Cambodian fighters Em Leangly, Long Ahchert and Rith Vibal will also take part in international friendly bouts against Portuguese opponents on the same night.
