The Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng Football Club and Phnom Penh Crown, both esteemed members of the Cambodian Premier League, recently experienced noteworthy success at their respective training camps and technical competitions in Thailand.

These efforts formed part of their strategic preparation for the upcoming Premier League season of 2023-2024, slated to commence on August 5.

Newly-appointed head coach of Svay Rieng FC, Pep Munoz, conveyed his satisfaction with the positive outcomes from the weeklong Thai training camp. He extolled the camp’s favourable atmosphere, which offered the club a vital opportunity to train and compete as a cohesive unit.

“We undertook five training sessions and two matches, coupled with four fitness training exercises. Though taxing for the players, this was beneficial for coordinating the team overseas,” said Munoz.

“The fitness competitions and the different completions broadened their understanding, which is advantageous,” he added.

Svay Rieng FC showcased their prowess by emerging victorious in a technical competition against Police Tero FC on July 5, with a resounding score of 3-0. They continued their triumphant stride, defeating Samut Prakan City 2-0 on July 8 before returning home on July 9.

“The match against Police Tero FC was intense; they played admirably. However, our players performed exceptionally during the main matches, working strenuously and amassing valuable experience,” Munoz said.

Upon the team’s return to Cambodia, Munoz confirmed that Svay Rieng FC would continue their rigorous training, including a friendly match.

“All teams are introducing new foreign players and coaches, ensuring an electrifying season,” he said.

In a similar vein, the “Red Lion” Phnom Penh Crown are persisting with their training in Thailand. They arrived on July 2 and have since displayed their strength in two technical training competitions, defeating Suphanburi FC 3-0 and securing a 1-1 draw with Port FC on July 7.

The club’s head coach, Oleg Starynskyi, highlighted their objective of enhancing performance quality. This is particularly essential as, alongside their league commitments, the Red Lion are scheduled to compete against the Young Elephants of Laos on August 16 for the AFC Cup 2023.

The competition will determine the team that will face Singapore’s Tampines Rovers in the August 23 play-off round.
