The Indonesian men's U22 men national football team were crowned champions of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, defeating Thailand 5-2 in extra time on May 16 at Olympic National Stadium in Phnom Penh.

The match was marred by an ugly incident that occured in the 91st minute, as Indonesia took the lead with their third goal.

As Indonesian player Irfan Jauhari scored the goal in the first minute of extra time, a brawl broke out on the sidelines between the players and coaching staff of the two teams.

After calm had been restored, the Indonesians regained their cool and went on to score twice more.

The first came for Fajar Fathur Rahman in the 107th minute. Beckham Putra slotted another in minute 120 to seal the gold.

The win marked Indonesia's first trip to the top of the podium since 1991.

“After a long wait of 32 years, the Garuda Nusantara have succeded in bringing home the 2023 SEA Games gold medal,” said the Indonesian Football Federation, via social media.

Earlier the same day, defending champions Vietnam secured the bronze, beating Myanmar 3-1 in regular time.
