The Cambodia Basketball Federation (CBF) has signed an agreement with business development specialists CSSR Future Now, with a focus on developing youth basketball in the Kingdom.
The partnership aims to create new standards for youth leagues, strengthening the pool of talent and building capable athletes who will represent Cambodia on the international stage.
Although Cambodia’s national basketball team recently made history by winning gold and silver medals at the 32nd SEA Games in 2023, the collaboration with CSSR Future Now is seen as a critical step in ensuring the long-term development of future players.
A signing ceremony was held at the National Sports Training Center on November 30. During the ceremony, Keo Monorom, director of the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports and a member of the CBF executive board, explained the details of the new agreement.
“Through this partnership, we will work together to organise the U15 and U19 basketball leagues for both boys and girls in Cambodia. This is a great opportunity to enhance the skills of young players, making them strong enough to eventually join the national team, contributing to the growth of basketball in Cambodia in the future,” she said.
Kouch Varaman, CEO of CSSR Future Now, shared his personal motivation for this initiative.
He mentioned that his two brothers, who are professional basketball players abroad, wanted to bring international experience back to Cambodia. He also expressed his desire to provide more opportunities for young athletes, particularly students, to participate in basketball, encouraging them to train harder and eventually join the national team.
“I have worked with Austin for two years to create long-lasting youth basketball standards in Cambodia,” Kouch noted.
“This will lead to the development of quality athletes who will compete internationally, and as Khmer citizens, we will take great pride in seeing Cambodia succeed on the global stage,” he added.
Austin Koledoye, CBF general secretary, highlighted that previous partnerships had focused solely on the senior teams, but the new agreement places significant emphasis on youth development.
“This new collaboration will provide a clearer plan for the next four years to identify and develop talent for the national team. It will give Cambodia’s basketball team the opportunity to compete for regional and international titles in the future,” he explained.
CBF president Sean Borath praised the efforts of CSSR Future Now, acknowledging their strong commitment to youth development. He also noted that Cambodia is preparing to host the 5th Asian Youth Games in 2029, which marks another milestone for the country in the sports world.
