Angkor Tiger FC president Akihiro Kato is thrilled with his team's performance in the 2024-2025 Cambodian Premier League (CPL).

They have won all of their matches so far. After a tough season in 2023, which saw them finish at the bottom of the table, the team is now looking to create new history.

Last season, under English coach Alistair Heath, Angkor Tiger struggled, finishing with only 18 points from 5 wins and 19 losses.

However, with new head coach Yuth Niy and assistant Kota Miyagi, the club has turned its trajectory around.

It has introduced several experienced foreign players, including four Japanese – Taiga Kitajima, Kodai Nagashima, Shuto Asano and Takuto Yasuoka – as well as English defender Ben William Nugent and Timor-Leste striker Joao Pedro.

To date, Angkor Tiger has claimed victories in their four matches. They defeated Ministry of Interior 1-0 on August 11, overcame Tiffy Army 2-1 on August 25 and secured a 2-0 win against ISI on September 15.

Most recently, they triumphed over Kirivong Sok Sen Chey with a 3-1 scoreline, with Nagashima scoring first, followed by two goals from Asano.

These consecutive wins have propelled Angkor Tiger to third place in the league, currently led by first-place Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng and second-place Phnom Penh Crown, who are tied on points.

Looking ahead to their match against Visakha this Sunday at 6 PM, Kato hopes for a fifth straight win, a feat never achieved before by the club.

He expressed his ambitions on social media.

“4 wins in a row!! Never won 5 in a row before so win Sunday game and make new history!” he wrote.

In recognition of Kato's dedication to developing Cambodian football, particularly in Siem Reap, Svay Rieng president Dy Vichea praised him for his efforts in building Angkor Tiger and contributing to the growth of the sport in the Kingdom.

However, Kato faces a challenging task against Visakha, who have recently shown improvement despite early-season losses. With two recent victories, including a devastating 9-0 win over Ministry of Interior, Visakha is also keen on securing points to climb the league standings.

As Angkor Tiger prepares for this pivotal match, the pressure mounts for Kato and his team to continue their impressive form and make history.
