Hut Mei Lang, a student from the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP), has been selected as one of 12 Global Ambassadors for Seeds for the Future programme in 2025.

Mei Lang’s selection marks a major achievement, not just for her, but also for Cambodia, as she becomes one of only two ambassadors representing the ASEAN region in the global initiative.

The programme, which seeks to empower young leaders through Huawei's global alumni network, is designed to foster innovation, digitalisation and sustainable entrepreneurship.

The participants will participate in short-term trainings, global competitions and ongoing alumni activities centered around digital technology. According to Huawei, this will provide them with an important platform to understand industry innovation, experience cross-cultural exchanges and cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit.

When asked why she decided to participate in the competition, Mei Lang explained that the opportunity aligned with her personal goals.

“I saw this as a good opportunity to develop my personal skills, such as exchanging knowledge and culture with other countries, and learning more about technology and the digital revolution,” she explained.

“What motivated me even more was the opportunity to represent Cambodia and bring our country to the international stage,” she added.

She noted to showcase the potential of Cambodia’s youth to a global audience and highlight the untapped talents that exist within the Kingdom.

This ambition, combined with her enthusiasm for technology, propelled her through the national selection process that ultimately paved the way for her to become an ambassador.

A rigorous path to ambassadorship

The path to becoming a Global Ambassador was far from easy. She first had to go through a national selection process, where six Cambodian candidates were chosen.

The process included participation in courses with technology and business experts, followed by an internship at Huawei’s Tech4Good program in Shenzhen, China.

These experiences gave her a deeper understanding of the transformative potential of technology and innovation.

After completing the initial programmes, the candidates became eligible for the Global Ambassador competition.

To apply, she went through a series of interviews. Following preliminary selection, a public voting stage was held. Over 7,500 votes supported Mei Lang, propelling her to the final selection.

“I am beyond honoured and humbled to have been selected for this incredible role. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of my amazing family, friends, AUPP, Huawei Cambodia and all public voters who rallied behind me,” she wrote on her social media after the announcement.
