MEN FOUND GUILTY OF TRAFFICKING
Nguyen Yang Fong and Bith
Hong, Vietnamese nationals, were sentenced by Phnom Penh Municipal
Court last week to six years in prison and fined 10 million riels each
for drug trafficking. The two men were arrested with 3,940 amphetamine
tablets on January 15. Both men were found guilty despite denying the
crime.

MAN HANGS HIMSELF AFTER QUARREL
Neang
Chanthoeun, 25, a moto mechanic, hanged himself under his father's
house after a quarrel with his wife in Kampong Chhnang province
Thursday. Neang Chanthoeun's father said that his son was always drunk
and beat his wife and that, on the day of the incident, he asked his
daughter-in-law to sleep on the ground floor of his house because he
was worried that Neang Chanthoeun would beat her.

FAULTY BRIDGE COLLAPSES AGAIN

bridge in Ratanak Mundul district, Battambang province, collapsed again
Friday. A source who witnessed the incident said that a truck belonging
to a private company was crossing the bridge when it collapsed. The
truck, which was carrying mixed goods from Pailin city to Battambang
province, plummeted into the river.

HUSBAND BEATS WIFE WITH STICK
Pheng
Lei, 26, was seriously injured by her drunken husband who beat her on
the head with a wooden stick in Samrong Tong district Wednesday. Pheng
Lei was attacked and rendered unconscious by her husband after she
asked him to look after their one-year-old daughter while she was
preparing a meal. The woman is currently recovering at Kampong Speu
Provincial Hospital.

ATTEMPTED MURDER ON THE ROAD
Three
men were arrested for attempting to kill two people on the road in
Phnom Penh's Veal Vong commune, Prampii Makara district, Wednesday.
Ngoun Chanrasmei, 20, sustained serious injuries to his right hand and
Lina Bunna, 18, to his left ear during the attack. Both victims have
been sent to a hospital. The assailants have been arrested and are
awaiting trial.
