Dec 7: Chan Buntheng, 24, shot So Pheak dead with an AK-47 in Bat-tambang.

The husband of the victim, Meas Samon, said his wife had stopped Buntheng from having

a relationship with their daughter which made him angry. Buntheng was arrested trying

to escape to Thailand.

Dec 8: Khirn Khat, 30, shot Khit Khoeun, 34, dead in Battambang. Khat and

Khoeun had a conflict over the ownership of a plot of rice paddy before the incident.

Dec 10: Tol Heng, 46, was seriously injured by a land mine while clearing

a banana field in Baray, Kampong Thom. The mine was laid in the field to prevent

bad people from stealing bananas.

Dec 10: Chhun Chhoeun, 59, and his 12-year-old son Neat instantly died and

Chhun Sreipov was slightly injured in a grenade explosion while sleeping in their

house in Kampong Cham. Some locals said the grenade was thrown in a revenge attack;

others that Chhoeun had left the grenade on the wooden head-board of the family's

bed only for a cat to knock it off during the night.

Dec 11: A brothel manager, Ngu-yen Yamgnen, 35, was beaten and stabbed to

death by Chan Try, 23, and Bouy Yamyin, 21, in Russei Keo. Revenge was the motivation,

say newspaper reports.

Dec 11: Ngourn Chandara, 28, was shot dead on Mao Tse Tung Blvd by two unidentified

men to whom he was chatting.

Dec 12: Vang Vann Treng, 37, hanged himself in Russei Keo district, upset with

his chronic disease and poverty.

Dec 13: Srei Ratana, 35, was shot dead in Kandal by his colleague. Ratana

was a robber who conflicted with his friend over the unfair sharing of stolen property.

Dec 13: Huy Nan was shot dead by his elder brother, Huy Nen, 46, in Kampong

Speu. Nen said he heard Nan crying for help, then he saw a man walking in the dark

in front of Nan's house. He fired his AK-47, thinking the man was a robber, but it

was his brother. Nen was arrested.

Dec 14: Hao Phanith, 4, died in a fire which burned 31 houses in Toul Kork.

The fire started from an electrical short-circuit.

Dec 15: Sem Ham, 42, and his daughter Sem Maly, 17, were seriously injured

when In Chea, 25, chopped Ham's neck and Maly's left arm. The pair said they had

been trying to stop Maly's sister from quarrelling with Chea, her husband. Chea escaped.

Dec 16: Mao Channoy, 19, and Yoeun Yan, 21, were arrested after having cut the

throat of a military policeman, Sam Sarun, 33 in Kieng Svay district, Kandal on Dec

13 to rob him of his motorbike.

Dec 16: A soldier, Ouk Savoeun, 25, and a motor taxi driver Noun Vanthong, 25,

were killed in a grenade explosion in a brothel in Kampong Thom. Savoeun was reportedly

playing with the grenade at the time.

Dec 16: Hang Hock was killed by Phal Meth, 25, who shot at a military truck on

which Hock was travelling in Battambang. A witness said that Meth was outraged with

the truck driver who failed to stop to pick him up while trying to hitch-hike. Meth

was arrested.

Dec 18: Ty Chantha, 28, and Ty Chanly, 18, were seriously injured in a grenade

explosion while they were rowing a boat in a lake in Kieng Svay, Kandal. The grenade

had been laid in the fishing net to stop people stealing fish.

Dec 19: Taing Kourng, 20, was found dead in a pond in Kieng Svay, Kandal.

He had been beaten on his head, his face covered with plastic bag, his arms handcuffed

and strangled with shoe laces. Police said he had been killed the day before. The

motivation for the killing is not known as the criminal has not been arrested.

Dec 24: Nim Neang, 19, committed suicide by drinking pesticide in Prey Veng.

Her father Ngeng said she was angry with him after he scolded her for going out at

night.

Dec 25: Leng Somaly, 15, shot herself dead with a K-59 handgun in her house

in Phsar Thmei. She was upset because her grandfather was seriously sick.

Dec 25: Chum Rin, 53, from Kampong Cham died the instant Mak Chamroeum, 17,

kicked her. The criminal had been fighting with the victim's son when she tried to

intervene. Chamroeun has been arrested.

Dec 27: Hourn Nan, 54 was killed by his wife Chea Phal, 32, in Kam-pong Thom.

Phal said she argued with her husband and he beat her, then she surprisingly stabbed

his throat. Phal was arrested.

Dec 28: An man was shot dead in Olympic precinct by police who said he was

trying to rob Ron Narong's motorbike.

Dec 29: Chhoeung was shot dead by police after he stole property in a house

in Kampong Speu.

Dec 31: Chun Heang, 48, and his wife Ly Hour, 45, were shot dead and their

14-year-old daughter, Chun Kunthea injured with K-54 hand gun by Kim Hak, 33. The

victims' son, Chun Saran, had quarelled with Hak because Hak's dogs were fighting

with Chun's dog. Hak escaped.
