A minivan filled with sawn wood crashed into a police official’s motorbike in Prey Veng province’s Svay Antor district, injuring the officer, the van’s driver and his passenger on Tuesday, police said.

Ny Dara was driving the minivan when he crashed into Deputy Commune Police Chief Plouch Sakhorn’s motorbike, causing the officer to jump off his stationary vehicle just before the collision on Tuesday morning in Chrey commune, Commune Police Chief Thorn Moeun said.

“After the accident, authorities halted the truck and impounded it at Chrey commune police station temporarily while the victims were sent to Svay Antor district referral hospital for treatment,” Moeun said.

Sokhorn received cuts to his arm and Dara was also slightly injured, while Ny Saroeun, Dara’s brother and passenger, was seen bleeding from the mouth. All three were sent to hospital, Moeun said.

“According to primary interrogation, Ny Dara replied that he was sleepily driving and that's why he caused the traffic accident,” Moeun said.

Moeun said the minivan was legally transporting wood to be used for a house being built in Kandal’s Kien Svay district, adding that the driver had the necessary paperwork.

“We resolved this case already and we allowed them to take their truck and timber,” he said. “The driver agreed to pay $250 for compensation to the victim for fixing the motorbike and his medical treatment.”
