Chinese students from Guizhou province are taking part in a 14-day study tour of Cambodia. The visit is part of the second Guizhou Province Chinese Student Exchange Programme 2025. Themed “Plan for Thousands of Outstanding Students to Study Abroad”, it aims to enhance educational, tourism and cultural ties between the two nations.

Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, presided over a June 9 event to welcome the students.

“The second 14-day exchange programme with students from Qiannan Normal University of Nationalities is designed to strengthen bilateral relations and further educational cooperation,” he explained.

He emphasised the importance of learning about Cambodia's rich heritage, including Khmer customs, culture and literature, as well as the popular tourist sites, all of which were passed down to the current generation by Khmer ancestors.

The event was attended by senior education ministry officials, as well as Wu Haiyan, representative of the Rector and head of the International Academic Exchange Department of the Chinese university, and Sor Rithy, president of the Association for Cooperation to Promote Cambodian Education, ASEAN-China, as well as Cambodian and Chinese students.

Naron highlighted the many benefits of the programme, such as fostering mutual understanding, enhancing language skills and promoting educational collaboration.

“Through this exchange, students will gain insights into the history, culture, traditions and lifestyle of the Cambodian people. They will also learn about the value of peace, socio-economic development and multiculturalism for social harmony and friendship,” he said.

The 33 visiting Chinese students will have the opportunity to learn Khmer and develop practical skills through immersive study and practice in Cambodia.

Through travel, the programme tests students’ adaptability to new situations while encouraging problem-solving and independent living.

The minister added that the exchange programme will also serve as a platform for cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese higher education institutions, facilitating curriculum exchanges, teaching experiences and collaborative research.
