As part of his ongoing visits to industrial sites, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Hem Vanndy toured K&K Pipe Cambodia's factory, recognising the company's important role in the nation's water supply sector, according to a July 1 press release from the ministry.

It noted that Vanndy acknowledged the company’s commitment to international standards, which has led to reduced imports, job creation and enhanced technical skills in the sector.

"With high-quality pipes like those produced by K&K Pipe, public and private water supply operators can reduce water loss and enhance services for citizens and the industrial sector,” he was quoted as saying in the release.

“K&K Pipe is an example of how local enterprises can drive economic growth and innovation in Cambodia," he added.

During the visit, the minister inspected various sections of the factory, including raw material storage, HDPE and LDPE production lines, quality control areas and finished product storage.

He urged the company to continue its research and development by working with the ministry's associated entities, such as the National Laboratory of Science, Technology and Innovation (NLSTI), the Institute of Standards of Cambodia (ISC) and the Metrology Centre of Cambodia (NMC).

According to the press release, these collaborations aim to elevate the quality, standards and market competitiveness of the company’s products, both locally and internationally. It has already earned Cambodia Standards (CS) certification for its products and utilises national quality infrastructure services.

Vanndy also recommended that the company seek additional financing options to help private water operators expand their water distribution networks and capacity. He mentioned that the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) is establishing a training entity and invited the company to participate in offering practical skills training.

K&K Pipe, employing 133 Cambodian workers, operates nine ISO-standard machines to produce a range of pipes used in water supply, agriculture, dredging, telecommunications and gas networks. The factory's monthly production capacity reaches 5,225,220 metres of HDPE pipes, with diameters spanning from 20mm to 1,000mm, as per the press release.
