The Ministry of Public Works and Transport recently conducted training courses to update the management and provision of public services in land and waterway transportation.
Held at the Battambang Provincial Hall on May 30, the workshop saw the participation of Soun Rachana, secretary of state at the ministry and permanent deputy chairman of its steering committee for decentralisation and deconcentration, along with provincial governor Sok Lou and relevant officials.
Rachana emphasised the significance of such training workshops, saying they were the third in a series organised by the ministry. The officials from 10 provinces – Battambang, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakkiri and Mondulkiri, were actively involved. These provinces encompass 49 target district administrations.
He highlighted the importance of disseminating information and providing training to the officials working directly at the One Window Service Office (OWSO) in districts. The objective is to equip them with the necessary capacity to offer efficient, accountable, transparent and high-quality services to the public.
Governor Lou said the government prioritises digital transformation, noting that multiple policy measures focusing on two key foundations would be implemented: the development of digital infrastructure and building trust in the digital system.
The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity and awareness of provincial and district leaders and relevant officials in providing better and quicker public services in the field of land transportation. These services encompass technical inspections of tricycles and motorbikes with back-carriages, management and registration of car garages, motorcycle repairs and assembly, safety procedures, copying and registration, and water vessel procedures at the OWSO of capital and provincial administrations.
Lou also emphasised the province’s priority activity, which is to provide administrative services online. This allows individuals to apply for services, make payments and track their requests independently through information technology.
