Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina said the ministry has been paying close attention to the agricultural situation, both technically and politically, in order to encourage further participation by the private sector and development partners.
Tina made the remarks as he met with outgoing EU ambassador to Cambodia Carmen Moreno at the ministry headquarters in Phnom Penh on August 25, according to the ministry.
The ministry is promoting an agricultural programme that brings farmers and producers closer together. The programme improves the value chain, while guaranteeing food security and price stability across the country, he said.
He added that the ministry is also implementing strategies to reduce costs and expenses to farmers, helping them become more profitable. This will ensure efficient and sustainable growth and will stimulate Cambodia’s economy, contributing to the government’s goal of the Kingdom becoming an upper-middle income country by 2030.
During the meeting, the minister extended his thanks to the EU for its excellent cooperation in supporting and developing Cambodia's agricultural sector. He suggested that the EU continue its cooperation under the new mandate, particularly in the marine and freshwater fisheries sub-sectors.
