The Preah SreyIçanavarman Museum of Economy and Money (SOSORO), managed by the National Bank of Cambodia, today announced the progress of its economic literacy programme initiated in March 2024.

Through a partnership with the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) and collaboration with key banking partners and local education authorities, the programme has reached over 9,000 students from public schools.

This initiative provides funding for transportation and visits to the SOSORO Museum, aiming to enhance students’ knowledge of Cambodia’s monetary and economic history.

“The programme has offered new educational opportunities and cultural exposure for students across various socio-economic backgrounds,” said a December 26 statement by the museum.

“Initially implemented in Phnom Penh and its surrounding areas, the programme has now expanded to Kampong Thom province, providing access to economic education for students in rural areas,” it added.

This development highlights efforts to ensure that students across the country, regardless of their financial or geographic circumstances, can benefit from educational resources.

Key banking institutions including Acleda Bank, ABA Bank, Canadia Bank, Cambodian Public Bank, CIMB Bank, Wing Bank, the Institute of Banking and Finance, KB Prasac Bank and Maybank have contributed to the program.

Additional organisations, such as Credit Bureau Cambodia and MekongNet, have also supported the initiative.

As a result of their shared contributions, thousands of students have gained access to enhanced educational experiences and extracurricular activities.

“We are deeply satisfied with the success of this programme and the positive feedback from the students, the educators and all the stakeholders,” said Blaise Kilian, co-director of the SOSORO Museum.

“With the continued collaboration of our banking and private sector partners, we hope to keep strengthening economic literacy and cultural exposure among Cambodian youth, laying the foundation for inclusive growth,” he added.

The SOSORO Museum and its partners plan to expand the programme further in 2025 to reach more students nationwide.

The positive feedback from participants and educators has reinforced the importance of this initiative.

“The collaboration between the ABC and the SOSORO Museum demonstrates our shared commitment to providing Cambodian youth with concrete economic education,” said Rath Sophoan, ABC Chairman.

“When visiting the SOSORO Museum, pupils can link what they have learnt in school to the real life economy, thus making their education more meaningful,” he explained.

The SOSORO museum is dedicated to educating the public about the country’s monetary and economic history.

Featuring a combination of artefacts and interactive exhibits, the museum has attracted over 100,000 visitors since its opening in 2019.
