As part of his two-day working visit to Cambodia, Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov paid a courtesy call on Senate president Hun Sen this morning, May 27.

At the beginning of the talks, Krasnov recalled that during a 2016 meeting with Hun Sen, Russian President Vladimir Putin had praised the relationship between the two nations, describing it as a friendship which has been strengthening for almost seven decades, ever since diplomatic relations were established.

“Russia highly appreciates your personal contribution to the development of bilateral dialogue,” Krasnov told Hun Sen.

The Russian official, the head of his nation’s Supervisory Authority, noted that cooperation between the law enforcement institutions of the two countries in the field of countering transnational organised crime, including those in the digital environment, as well as corruption and other modern challenges, is on the rise.

“Together with our Cambodian colleagues, we have already held a large number of meetings, some of them are still to come,” Krasnov said.

“The main topics include plans to develop collaboration with the relevant authorities of the Kingdom, including joint work in international formats and the organisation of events to share advanced experience in prosecutorial and supervisory activities, as well as the scientific and educational spheres,” he added.

He explained that the Russian Prosecutor General's Office is responsible for ensuring lawfulness in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the military-industrial complex, and in this regard, he expressed his readiness to participate in strengthening partnership relations in the defence sector.

“I am convinced that all agreements resulting from this visit will contribute to enhancing the law enforcement potential of our states and further cooperation, including through your support,” the prosecutor general stated.

A day earlier, Krasnov met with Chea Leang, Prosecutor General of the Supreme Court, to discuss cooperation in the field of justice.

He confirmed Russia’s readiness to share experience in countering the most pressing challenges and threats, including the fight against digital crime, terrorism, extremism, corruption and money laundering, as well as the illegal trafficking of weapons and drugs. He expressed interest in studying the experience of his Cambodian counterparts in these areas.

The two sides also signed a 2025-2026 Programme of Cooperation, which will see professional contacts developed between the Prosecutor General's Offices of the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Cambodia.
