Funcinpec would not field any candidates in the Senate elections, to be held on January 29 next year, because of a lack of commune-council members, it said yesterday. 

Party spokesman Tom Sambol said this decision had been made because Funcinpec had just 270 commune council members and had experienced little success at previous elections.

He said Funcinpec would not tell its members who to vote for in the Senate.
