Khim Sarith, secretary of state of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, expressed confidence on Thursday that more Khmer temples would be listed as World Heritage sites after an official proposal is submitted to UNESCO. “I personally hope that they’re listed as World Heritage sites, because they are completely Khmer property,” he said at the fifth International Conference on Southeast Asian Cultural Values. He said Sambor Prey Kuk, a pre-Angkorian temple in Kampong Thom province, and Banteay Chhmar temple in Banteay Meanchey province will both be on the next site list submitted to UNESCO.
