New National Road 4-Bokor road nearing usability
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced that more than 40km of the space for the 61km new road has been cleared. The road will connect Bokor National Park to National Road 4.
The ministry said on January 29, Sok Kong, president of Sokha Real Estate, had inspected the construction of the road which will pass through a palm oil plantation on successful businessman Mong Reththy’s economic land concession.
“Only 16km of the site of the new road needs to be cleared. Soon the public will have a more convenient way to travel to Bokor Mountain,” said an announcement.
Although it will not yet be paved, it is expected that the road would be usable within the next four months.
Chea Sophara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, said the implementation of the infrastructure project was approved by the government in early 2022.
The land management ministry had working with the two veteran businessmen to begin clearing land for the road. Its construction will reduce travelling time, saving both time and money, and would stimulate the economy by supporting investment and attracting tourists in that area.
Real estate agents in Preah Sihanouk and Kampot provinces have expressed their expectation that the new project will boost the development potential of the two provinces. This will drive demand for land for new construction projects such as resorts, hotels and guesthouses, which in turn will lead to an uptick in tourism.
