In an effort to bolster the integrity of its voter list and registration, the National Election Committee (NEC) is holding a five-day training session aimed at enhancing the capabilities of its trainers and pertinent officials. The training will run through August 21.
NEC deputy secretary-general Mok Dara shed light on the upcoming electoral timelines and procedures in his opening remarks. Under electoral laws, rules and procedures, he noted, voter list checks and registration are scheduled from October 1 to December 31, 2023. Specifically, voter list checks and registration in communes across the country will span 19 days, commencing October 1 and concluding on October 19”.
Discussing the primary objectives of the training, Dara highlighted the need for perfection in the voter registration process.
“The training is aimed at ensuring our lists are complete, accurate, up-to-date, and secure,” he was cited as saying in a press release.
The release further detailed the eligibility criteria for voter registration. It clarified that the process caters to Cambodians residing in communes who have yet to register. Moreover, Cambodian nationals who reach the age of 18 by December 31, 2023 – effectively those born on or before January 1, 2006 – are also eligible.
Lastly, the notice also addressed Cambodians who have moved to new communes, confirming their right to register in their new locality.
