The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, in conjunction with the Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ), is conducting a training course focused on enhancing journalists’ proficiency in the effective and secure use of social media, aligning with the digital skills required in the local media landscape.
The December 5-7 training – held at the Institute of Digital Governance (IDG) in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changvar district and attended by 37 journalists from 25 institutions – covers smartphone productivity, social media content creation, mobile video recording as well as the use of video recording and editing applications to produce quality video content with mobile phones.
“This course aims to equip journalists with enhanced knowledge of recording applications and utilising social media and instant messgaging platforms like Messenger, Telegram and WhatsApp. It supplements numerous others conducted since the beginning of the year,” said the CCJ.
Chhim Makara, a reporter at Bayon Radio and Television (BTV), said the course holds great benefit for him.
He noted its significance after acquiring new knowledge about the use of current technology, saying he was previously unaware of applications that could enhance his work efficiency.
“I thank the CCJ for this valuable educational course, aiding journalists in technology knowledge, writing, secure information storage, swift communication and time-saving,” he said.
Makara also said that, being a journalist in this age of technology, he intends to apply his newfound knowledge immediately and effectively within his sector.
Heng Neang, the workshop coordinator, said the training was coordinated in close collaboration with the telecoms ministry. The ministry has invited journalists to attend three such sessions, attracting over 100 participants.
Neang said that the CCJ plans to maintain collaboration with the ministry, extending technological knowledge to journalists who have not yet participated in the workshops.
“This training aims to keep local journalists updated on the latest technological advancements. Clearly, after attending each course, participants gain a better understanding of global tech developments in the field of journalism,” he said.
