Prime Minister Hun Manet met more than 2,000 Cambodians living in Europe, including nearly 300 students studying in European countries, during which he updated them on the current peace and development status in the country.

Manet is attending two major events during his first trip to Europe as Prime Minister.

He will attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, from January 16-17 and will hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris from January 18-19.

Like his predecessor Hun Sen, Manet takes time to meet with members of the Cambodian diaspora in the countries he visits, previously Japan and the US and now Europe.

“The goal of meeting with our citizens is to get to know them and show the spirit of ‘we are one Khmer family’, especially it’s a time for me to update them on the situation of peace, development and happiness in Cambodia,” Manet said in a social media post on the morning of January 15 (Cambodian time).

He said that the purpose of his meeting with Cambodians in Europe was to inform them of the importance of his mission to meet with the French president and investors as the government seeks investment to further national development.

“I thank all compatriots for spending their time, effort and money to travel from near and far for this gathering. This provides closeness and support for the leaders of the government in our mission for the sake of the nation and the people," he said.
