National carrier Air Cambodia inaugurated a new route connecting Phnom Penh with Bangkok, Thailand, on February 17. With more than 300 passengers carried on the first day of operations alone, tourism industry insiders have praised the newest connection between the two Kingdoms, noting that it provides even more convenient options for air travel.
“Passengers were warmly welcomed with gifts and commemorative photos on the inaugural flight. We deeply appreciate the support we have received for this new service, which will operate daily using Airbus A320 or A321 aircraft,” the airline announced, via social media.
“Onboard services will include complimentary snacks and a luggage allowance of up to 32 kg. Additionally, we offer a premium business class service at a special price, ensuring comfort and convenience,” it added.
Chhay Sivlin, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA), believed the introduction of the new route was a positive sign for the Kingdom’s aviation industry, and reflected the growing accessibility of air travel.
“This is an excellent and diverse option for tourists, as we have observed a significant number of visitors from neighbouring countries, particularly Thailand. Expanding transportation options is essential to building traveller confidence and ensuring flights are available whenever needed," she said.
As an industry leader, Sivlinexpressed her commitment to promoting the Kingdom’s tourism potential and attracting more international visitors.
“Air transport plays a crucial role in the tourism and economic sectors. What makes this even more remarkable is that this expansion is being carried out by Air Cambodia, our national airline, which demonstrates the strength and reliability of our domestic aviation industry,” she noted.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed approximately 6.7 million foreign visitors in 2024, a 22.9% increase compared to 5.4 million in 2023.
