A group of 24 Khmer Krom asylum seekers deported from Thailand on December 5 say they will seek help from the Red Cross today in a bid to secure food and medicine as they await a decision regarding their formal recognition as Cambodian citizens. The group has been sending letters to the Ministry of Interior since December 13 asking for identification cards and birth certificates. Thach Soong, the spokesman for the group, said the 24 are still waiting for a response from the ministry regarding their applications. “To rent a house, to look for a job, we need identification,” he said.
