A team from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) met with a working group from Kandal provincial administration on June 9 to discuss flood prevention systems and the drainage renovation system project in the province to ease the flooding in Phnom Penh that occurs during heavy downpours in the rainy season.
The provincial administration said that the meeting was held between deputy provincial governor Nuth Puth Dara and the JICA team with the participation of many officials from relevant departments.
Dara expressed his support for the flood prevention system and for the drainage system being built in Phnom Penh with the support of JICA.
He said the capital and Kandal province have been affected by floods during heavy rains.

He instructed all relevant officials in the province to support and cooperate with the JICA team, especially by providing the necessary information that the JICA team needs for their work to make the project successful.
The provincial administration said that JICA is currently conducting a feasibility study to improve the flood prevention and drainage systems in Phnom Penh before implementing the project.
