In a notice posted to social media to observe World AIDS Day this year, Hang Navy, head of the Health Bureau and director of Jasmine Residence, appealed to the public to continue to provide support and thanked Prime Minister Hun Sen for the one-tonne of milled rice and three million riel in donations he provides to the organization each month.
To date, Jasmine Residence – a residential support programme for children run under the auspices of the Cambodian Red Cross – has provided services to a total of 563 children. 402 of the children are living with HIV/AIDS and 161 are affected by HIV.
Jasmine Residence works in collaboration with seven orphanages in Phnom Penh and other communities and provides social and psychological support to these children whose lives have been impacted by HIV/AIDS.
The activities Jasmine Residence carries out as part of its core mission include psychological counseling, health education, ensuring that HIV-positive children know how to use their medications properly and have access to them as well as teaching Khmer, English, computer skills, drawing and other recreational activities.
She added that in addition to all this work, Jasmine Residence continues to cooperate with the Department of Social Affairs of Phnom Penh, the National Pediatric Hospital and some partner organizations to find solutions regarding children's medical conditions that are serious in nature, as well as helping to treat eye, ear, mouth and tooth diseases that are common to all children.
