The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has declared its intention to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, in order to contribute to assisting the Kingdom’s digital revolution.

Minister of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth met with Sanui Kazumasa, chief representative of JICA’s Cambodia Office on June 5.

Vandeth welcomed the cooperation between the Cambodian government and the Japanese government through JICA.

He also highlighted the ministry’s achievements in the past three years, most notably its institutional reform, human resource development and the growth of the telecommunications sector.

The minister thanked JICA for its willingness to participate in the development of human resources, especially in cyber security. He also requested JICA examine the possibility of offering other training.

The telecommunications ministry quoted Kazumasa as saying that the working meeting was to expand the cooperation with the ministry.

Kazumasa praised the achievements of the ministry as he expressed his intention of working closely with it to promote the digital revolution.

“JICA will also focus on cooperation in the cyber security sector. We are already preparing specialist instructors to train the ministry’s officials,” said Kazumasa.

Senior economist Ky Sereyvath, director-general of the Institute of China Studies at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said the expansion of cooperation and the promotion of the digital revolution by international institutions is crucial.

“Japan’s digital technology industry is among the world’s most advanced, so their assistance is welcome, especially when it comes to cyber security. This will reduce the threat of our date being compromised,” he added.

Sereyvath noted that Cambodia-Japan cooperation would allow the Kingdom to prepare an accurate database that will enable future development.
