The photo shared by a Chinese man who claimed his visa was $100 at Phnom Penh International Airport. Immigration department
The General Department of Immigration has refuted claims circulating on social media that Chinese nationals must pay $100 for an entry visa to Cambodia, with an additional $20 “unofficial” fee.
The department stated that false claims such as this are damaging to the Kingdom’s reputation.
The Chinese man who made the claim was arrested on March 1.
He entered Cambodia through Phnom Penh International Airport, and photographed a $100 bill, and then a $20 bill, alongside his entry documents, claiming it was for additional services fees.
In December last year, the Cambodian government announced a reduction in the price of tourist visas (e-Visa T) from $36 to $30, and the price of regular visas was reduced from $42 to $35.

The immigration department noted that this behaviour affected Cambodia's immigration laws and tarnished the reputation of immigration officials at Phnom Penh International Airport, who do not collect fees above the limits set by the government.
It added that immigration officers had detained the Chinese national for questioning, and the individual confessed to making the false claims about his entry visa and the relevant costs.
The department has proposed deporting the man and banning him from re-entering Cambodia, in accordance with the law.
