Authorities have given a two-day reprieve to 18 families facing eviction from the premises of an abandoned ice factory in Battambang province, villagers said Thursday. Deap Chinda, a resident representative, said the families had “not slept well” due to worries about the eviction, but that they had heard the date had been moved from Thursday until Saturday. An eviction letter issued by the provincial Department of Industry, Mines and Energy on October 2 said the villagers are living on state property and gave them three months to vacate it.
