Former Prime Minister Hun Sen, president of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party and chair of the Supreme Privy Council to the King, has announced that his wife Bun Rany is recovering and will be discharged from hospital soon.

In a Facebook post on the morning of February 2, Hun Sen acknowledged reports about his wife being admitted to Calmette Hospital but denied that she was sent abroad for intensive care.

He explained that four days ago, his wife collapsed at home, and her head was affected. But her condition has improved significantly under the care provided by doctors at the hospital, and she is awaiting a third scanning.

“'The reports claiming that my wife was sent abroad for treatment is fake,” he said.

Hun Sen expressed gratitude to Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk for visiting his wife, who is her "God sister", at the hospital.

“I also take this opportunity to send a message to all malicious groups to stop spreading disinformation and to prioritise their health rather than focusing on my family issues,” he said.
