A youth-led initiative is planning an environmental mission which will see the Kingdom’s urban youth get closer to nature and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving Cambodia’s rich natural resources.

Environmental organisation Future Pioneers is seeking university students to join an immersive three-day programme which will take place in a small fishing village in Kampot province.

The “Green Sphere” programme will see the participants staying at the Kampong Samaki fishing community. There, they will learn how the local people live their lives in harmony with nature, gifting them with a practical understanding of environmental awareness and sustainable practices.

Guided by the “Plant Today, Ensure a Greener Tomorrow,” the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between urban youth and local communities.

Piet Vichay, founder of Future Pioneers and project lead for Green Sphere, encouraged any university students who are passionate about environmental conservation and sustainability to apply.

“Youth are the future leaders of change. Through initiatives like Green Sphere, we aim to empower them with the knowledge, experience and inspiration needed to drive meaningful impact in their communities,” he explained.

During the March 7-9 trip, the youths will not only enjoy the lush mangrove surroundings of the ecotourism destination, they will play an active part in environmental conservation.

Participants will engage in knowledge-sharing sessions led by community members and guest speakers, and gain firsthand experience of living like the locals.

The participants will join group discussions and exchange ideas with like-minded individuals, creating lasting memories while deepening their understanding of sustainability.

They will also take part in the planting of 150 mangrove trees, with the goal of restoring coastal ecosystems and supporting local livelihoods.

The trip will be fully funded, with the organisers covering round-trip transportation, shared accommodation and meals.

Vichay noted that spots are limited, and that individuals who demonstrate a strong willingness to learn about the environment and sustainability will be prioritised.

Upon completion, participants will receive certificates of appreciation, in recognition of their contributions.

The project is co-led by Teng Lyza, Sok Kimiy, Van Meysorng and Vin Hellan, who form the core team dedicated to making the initiative a success.

Applications close on February 14. Participants who want to drive meaningful impact in their communities should apply by Clicking Here to Register!
