Four men accused of stealing almost 20 ounces of gold and more than 270,000 Thai baht from the house of the deputy police commissioner in Koh Kong were charged yesterday.

Deputy provincial police chief Sin Se identified the accused as Thhoeun Im, 27; Ny Samnan 22; Hel Ny, 27; and Sok Try, 16.

The four suspects had been arrested on Wednesday morning as they tried to escape from the province in a Daewoo Ticom, Sin Se said.

“They robbed 16 damleungs of gold (19.2 ounces) and 274,050 baht (US$8,908) from the house of the deputy police commissioner of Koh Kong,” Sin Se said, adding that the gold and money had been returned to the deputy police commissioner.

Police have seized the suspects’ car and sent them to prison to await trial.
