A 21-year-old woman has died and 41 other workers sustained injuries in a May 7 traffic accident on National Road 44 in Kampong Speu province’s Veal Pong commune, in Oudong Me Chey town.
The crash occurred at 6.20am, when a bus was forced to take evasive action and then hit a tree. One woman was killed, while an additional five sustained serious injuries. 36 other passengers – 30 of them women – suffered minor injuries, said the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.
The ministry added that the victims are receiving treatment at Oudong Referral Hospital. The body of the deceased has been returned to her family.
The Kampong Speu Provincial Police Commissioner explained that the accident occurred when a Ford pickup family vehicle – which was travelling in the same direction as the bus – made a sudden left turn, forcing the bus to swerve, leading to a collision with a tree.

The authorities are conducting further investigations into the case.
The ministry confirmed that each of the passengers has received assistance from the authorities and officials from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
“The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will continue to address the difficulties faced by our brothers and sisters, the workers, as well as their families, in accordance with the social security policies of the National Social Security Fund,” added the ministry statement.
