A former soldier was arrested on Monday for allegedly planting rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) on land behind a school in Oddar Meanchey province.

Police are still questioning the suspect. The man was detained after one DK-75 and four B40 RPGs were discovered behind the Rout Chambei village middle school in Samrong town’s O’Smach commune.

The four Soviet-made B40 RPGs were planted in an explosive powder in a vertical launch position in three places around 10m apart. Two were placed together in one location, the Samrong town police chief said.

The DK75 RPG was placed around 100m from the B40s.

Oddar Meanchey provincial deputy police chief Lek Sokha told The Post on Tuesday that the suspect had been a soldier with Brigade 402. Police

are investigating and looking for others potentially involved.

The suspect would be sent to the provincial court within 48 hours, he added. “I cannot give you any further details because police are still working on the case and there may be others involved,” Sokha said.

Samrong town police chief Horm Phirum said villagers found the RPGs and alerted police on Sunday, with the man detained by police in the commune the following day.

Phirum said the suspect had confessed to planting the rockets. He could not comment further as police were still working on the case.

“My police team collaborated with [others] to identify and arrest the suspect. We will investigate further because there may be other suspects,” he said.

He said specialists had concluded that the RPGs could not go off as they did not have detonators.

The rockets were taken to provincial police headquarters for safekeeping. National Police was also involved in the investigation, he said.
