Three Chinese and two Burmese nationals were arrested in connection with 101 kilogrammes of seized narcotics. Anti-drug department.
The Anti-Drug Department seized almost 125 kilogrammes of narcotics in two separate operations in Phnom Penh and Svay Rieng’s Bavet town late last week.
A total of eight suspects were arrested, including Chinese, Burmese and Cambodian nationals.
A March 31 report from the department detailed how on March 26, a specialised team of officers – led by Major General In Song, the department’s deputy director – worked with the Phnom Penh and Preah Sihanouk police to conduct a series of raids aimed at suppressing a drug trafficking network.
They arrested five suspects— two Burmese and three Chinese nationals – and confiscated over 101 kilogrammes of drugs, which originated from the “Golden Triangle” region and were intended to be transported to a third country via maritime routes.
The authorities did not specify the type of drugs which were seized. The suspects and evidence were sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court prosecutor’s office for legal proceedings.
In a separate case, on March 30, an investigating judge from the same prosecutor’s office ordered the detention of three suspects linked to the trafficking and possession of 23 kilogrammes of drugs, including ketamine and MDMA.
The gang reportedly operated in Phnom Penh and Svay Rieng province from January until March 22. Four additional suspects remain at large.
Neither the court nor Anti-Drug Department provided additional details of the operation.
