Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Samheng said the Czech government has committed to further expanding agricultural training cooperation with Cambodia. The training, in the fields of technical and vocational skills in agricultural processing, are designed to meet the needs of the labour market within the context of economic and technical growth.
He made the statement following a May 15 meeting with Petr Gandalovic – director of the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Department under the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs – and Czech ambassador Martin Vavra.
According to a labour ministry press release, the meeting was held to discuss work that focuses on the results of cooperation over the past five years (2018-2023) and set priorities for the five years that begin in 2024, especially continued support for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Samheng praised the efforts of the Czech government to provide cooperation in the field of labour, especially in terms of technical and vocational training through his ministry’s National Employment Agency.
“During the past five years, the Cambodian government has partnered with PIN [People In Need], a Czech NGO that implements humanitarian assistance projects, long-term development projects and educational programmes,” he said.
“The Ministry welcomes all development partners, especially from the Czech Republic, to participate in the field of vocational training in Cambodia,” he said, using the official name of the land-locked country in central Europe.
During the meeting, Gandalovic noted that the Czech has provided TVET support to the Kingdom for many years.
Through the labour ministry, he said: “In order for this cooperation to be more effective, we should discuss the preparation of a TVET curriculum which will meet the future needs of the labour market, such as in the processing of agricultural products.”
Gandalovic explained that the Czech Republic has a long history in the processing of such products, as well as a developed TVET system.
