In a total mic-drop moment for Cambodia’s tourism scene, several locally owned hotels just dominated TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards — and it’s got everyone talking.

Leading the pack is Golden Temple Residence, named the #1 Small&Boutique Hotel in the World, followed by Golden Temple Hotel coming in at #10 globally in the same category.

From hidden gems to cozy retreats, these smaller stays make a big impression, according to TripAdvisor.

“The Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel,” it said.

“It’s awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the TripAdvisor community over a 12-month period. Out of our 8 million listings, fewer than 1 per cent achieve this milestone,” it added.

These back-to-back wins mark a major flex not just for the Golden Temple brand, but for Cambodia as a whole.

“This year’s results are truly historic,” said Lee Kimmey, managing director of Temple Group , the parent company behind the hotels.

“We’re deeply proud that our properties are being recognised on this level. It’s not just about rooms — it’s about making people feel something real,” she said.

The hotels stood out for their next-level attention to detail, personalised vibes and true-blue Khmer hospitality that hits guests right in the feels.

Kimmey emphasised that they focus on crafting “lasting memories” through service that blends comfort, culture and care.

And the glow-up doesn’t stop there — Golden Temple Boutique also grabbed the #9 spot in Asia, while Golden Temple Retreat and Golden Temple Villa made it into the top 10 of hotels worldwide.

Adding more hype to the win, Jaya House River Park in Siem Reap slid into the global spotlight too, ranked #21 in the Luxury Hotel category.

They were among the nine total Cambodian properties that received TripAdvisor’s "Best of the Best" Golden Badge for 2025.

“These accolades reflect Cambodia’s rising stature as a world-class travel destination,” Kimmey said.

“Recognition at this level shows that Siem Reap is not only home to Angkor Wat, but also world-class hospitality. It builds global trust and inspires travellers to experience more of what Cambodia has to offer,” she continued.

Thim Sereyvudh, director of the Siem Reap Tourism Department, said the department is very proud that the Siem Reap market — particularly its tourism industry — has gained international recognition.

“In my opinion, our tourism products — especially accommodation, food and other services — have developed to a high standard after more than 20 years of serving the industry. Most tour operators now understand customer needs very well,” Sereyvudh explained.

He also noticed that the hotels receiving high ratings were not international brands, but locally owned Cambodian hotels. This is a great source of pride for the national tourism sector, and he believed it reflects reality.

“I have travelled abroad, and in some cases, even four-star hotels in Europe do not match our level of hospitality and food service,” he told The Post.

He explained that, for example, some hotels abroad serve a basic Western breakfast that may not appeal to a diverse range of guests.

In contrast, Cambodian hotels often adapt their offerings to suit the preferences of different guests — such as Indian, Chinese or Japanese visitors — alongside general breakfast options.

He added that this strong performance reflects the fact that Cambodia is capable of offering excellent service and genuine hospitality, and he is proud that most of these successful hotels are owned by Cambodians.
