Cambodia has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the “One China” policy and reiterated that it considers Taiwan an inseparable part of Chinese territory. This renewed commitment was made during a two-day visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Cambodia, which concluded today, April 18.

“Cambodia opposes any attempts to interfere in China's internal affairs, and considers the issues of Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong and Taiwan as purely domestic matters of China,” explained a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

At the same time, China reaffirmed its firm support for Cambodia’s independent choice of a development path in line with its national conditions and for safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

China also expressed support for Cambodia to play an active and increasingly significant role in regional and international affairs.

Both sides are committed to not allowing any hostile activities to take place on the territory of one country against the other,” added the foreign ministry.

Some western countries have levelled accusations of human rights abuses in the Xinjiang region, particularly concerning the Uyghur ethnic minority. Meanwhile, Xizang, also known as Tibet, is associated with a number of separatist movements, similar to Taiwan.

Hong Kong has also faced controversies in recent years due to pro-democracy protests opposing Chinese governance.
