A 21-year-old man was hospitalised with serious injuries on Sunday morning after the bulldozer he was operating struck an anti-tank mine in Phnom Penh's Por Sen Chey district, police said.

The explosion occurred around 8am in Choam Chao commune at a construction site near Wat Vihear Khuon, district Police Chief Yim Saran said.

"It sent him flying over the pagoda wall," he said.

Video of the aftermath uploaded to social media show the victim, Heng Hy, with severe burns, including to his face, legs and arms. At least half an hour elapsed after the incident before an ambulance transported him to the Preah Kossamak Hospital.

According to police, the anti-tank mine was not originally laid at the site, but had been transported there along with dirt from along National Road 4.
