The Apsara National Authority (ANA) is planting grass lawns in front of the south corner of Angkor Wat to contribute to the beautification of the environment and to keep the greenery present in all seasons at the Angkor Wat World Heritage Site so that it is more attractive for visiting tourists.

The landscaping team is planting grass, trees and wildflowers in an area of 24,000 square metres in front of the south corner of Angkor Wat, with about 30 per cent of the work completed so far since the project started at the beginning of July.

They plan to finish the project within four months, according to Ang Sochenda, an official at the Department of Water, Forestry and Infrastructure Management of the APSARA Authority .

She said that after the grass lawn is planted the area will be more attractive to people taking pictures and doing photoshoots, which will help direct the flow of foot traffic and disperse people to avoid congestion and the location will then be suitable for holding various celebrations instead of the usual location directly in front of Angkor Wat.

ANA said that the grass fields around Angkor Wat are constantly maintained by the ANA through regular watering and mowing to keep the Angkor site green and easier to traverse in both dry and rainy seasons.
