Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong supports Cambodia in its efforts to seek a solution to the ongoing Myanmar crisis as the chair of ASEAN.

Lee expressed his support during a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen via videoconference on January 14, with the talks focused on the crisis and the Covid-19 situation in the two countries.

During the meeting, Hun Sen briefed Lee on his visit to Myanmar on January 7-8, reiterating that it was meant to find ways to end violence and attain a ceasefire, and to facilitate the distribution of humanitarian aid to the country.

“His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong thanked Cambodia for its significant contribution to finding a solution for Myanmar. He also stressed that he supports Cambodia’s effort as the ASEAN chair and the work of ASEAN special envoy on Myanmar,” Hun Sen said in a Facebook post after the meeting.

Both leaders agreed that outstanding issues regarding Myanmar should be left to ASEAN ministers and the ASEAN special envoy on Myanmar to address, the post said, adding that more assistance is needed to solve the crisis.
