Brazil pledged to provide 5 scholarship places a year to Cambodian students, as both countries look to deepen their bilateral relationship in various sectors, according to a press statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The pledge was made during the visit of Ouch Borith, Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister and standing secretary of state of the foreign affairs ministry and his delegation to Brazil, from November 29 to December 1.
Borith visited the South American country to co-chair the First Cambodia-Brazil Bilateral Consultation with Carlos Alberto Franco França, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
The ministry said that both ministers had discussed wide-ranging areas of bilateral cooperation, including diplomatic relations, trade, investment, education, sport, tourism, agriculture, human trafficking, demining and peacekeeping operations.

According to the statement, both sides were optimistic that there were many opportunities to explore and reap benefits from, as the two countries continue to build stronger diplomatic ties and solidify cooperation in all feasible areas.
They also discussed the feasibility of opening respective resident embassies in Brasilia and Phnom Penh in the near future.
Borith proposed to hold a business forum on the margin of the next session of Bilateral Consultation, which will be held in Phnom Penh. The forum will aim to expand business-to-business activities as trade volume between the two countries remains modest.
Both ministers expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the agricultural sector by sharing technology, training and exchange visits of officials.
Borith and Franco França also touched on other issues of common concern and the cooperation between Brazil and ASEAN. The successful hosting of the recent ASEAN summits and related meetings in Phnom Penh was also mentioned.
Among other senior leaders of Brazil, Borith also met with Augusto Pestana, the president of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex Brasil).
“Borith briefed the president of Apex Brasil on Cambodia’s strong economic outlook, speedy post-Covid-19 recovery, free trade agreements, and new and attractive investment law, all of which are favorable to Brazilian investors,” the statement said.
