Singapore Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean paid a May 8 courtesy call on General Hun Manet, deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and commander of the Royal Cambodian Army. Teo led a Singaporean delegation to the Kingdom, where he also attended the ongoing 32nd SEA Games.
Manet expressed his appreciation for the improvement of relationships and cooperation in all fields between Cambodia and the city-state, according to his social media post following the meeting.
Manet also recalled the close friendship between the two nations, noting that it began in 1965, when diplomatic relations were established with the newly-independent state of Singapore. Cambodia was among the first countries to recognise its independence.
He also expressed his gratitude for the trusting nature of their relationship.
Teo noted his satisfaction with the results of Cambodia-Singapore bilateral cooperation, which he described as making “remarkable progress” and expressed his appreciation of Cambodia’s success in hosting many large regional events, especially the 2022 ASEAN Summit, 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023.
Earlier in the day, Teo also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Hun Sen.
During the meeting, Teo said that his visit to Cambodia aimed to elevate the relationship between the two countries to another level.
