WHERE BEER BRINGS US TOGETHER: Innovative brewpub 11° to open in April 2023
Something’s brewing at Vattanac Capital Lifestyle Park: 11°, a contemporary pub and microbrewery open now, with its very first craft beer ready to enjoy from 1 May 2023. The craft beer offerings will expand in the coming months, and will be served up alongside Vattanac Brewery’s three flagship offerings and a menu of gastropub-style meals and snacks. With a comfortable and spacious interior, several TV screens and a stage, 11° is set to become a go-to spot for relaxed lunches, after-work drinks, sports events and live music. This is part of the rapidly-growing shopping and entertainment complex, which will soon also include a premium Omakase restaurant and a modern Korean BBQ.
The brewpub takes its name from the optimal temperature for the process of making beer; eleven degrees Celsius. Serendipitously, Phnom Penh is located eleven degrees of latitude north of the equator - fitting, for a city where the love of beer transcends class and social status and where beer is truly the drink of the people. It’s relevant too, as 11° brews their signature creations in an on-site glass-fronted microbrewery - guests can actually see their drink being made from hops to glass.
Singapore-born Master Brewer Clement Gan first developed an appreciation for the art of fermentation as a national university scholar in South Korea, where the process of making kimchi piqued his interest. Beer is made in a similar way, and Clement quickly became fascinated by this application of food science, creativity, and gastronomy. He began his career at the pioneering brewpub Galmegi Brewing in Busan City, South Korea, before moving to Brewerkz, the longest-running microbrewery in Singapore.
In Phnom Penh, Clement and the team at 11° aim to create a unique space, combining innovation and style with comfort and old-school hospitality. Of the beers themselves, Clement says:
“I want to come up with something unique - maybe we play with Khmer ingredients like Kampot pepper, maybe something totally out-of-the-box like marshmallow - this is craft beer! The first will be a golden ale that enters the stage orchestrated like Vivaldi's Spring. It will be in line with how our brewpub looks - classy, bright and hopefully leaving diners visually breathless, and instagrammers delighted.
11° opened officially to the public on 17 April 2023, and will launch its first craft beer on 1 May 2023.
Initially, 11° will be open from 4pm - 11pm Monday - Thursday, and 11.30am - 11pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Food will be served 11.30am - 2.30pm and 4pm - 11pm.
