RHB Bank (Cambodia) Plc on Tuesday hosted an appreciation dinner for the winners of the RHB Hackathon.

The winning team received prizes worth $1,500 and the opportunity to dine at Phnom Penh’s 5-star Rosewood Hotel with the RHB Bank Cambodia CEO and management as they shared their vast banking experience to create awareness on building a career in the sector.

The two winners from Team Kak started their employment journey with RHB Bank Cambodia as digital and technology, and management associates on Tuesday, reporting to chief technology officer Lim Chin Wan. This will serve as a stepping stone for their careers in banking.

"With the conclusion of the RHB Hackathon, the bank hopes to inspire a new generation of financial innovators to design new applications that can help propel Cambodia into a financial ecosystem where every individual can enjoy banking facilities wherever they are, whenever they want," said Lim.

Fifty-eight teams made up of 170 university students participated in the hackathon, which after six weeks of frenetic activity were whittled down to just one. Team Kak were selected as the winners by the experienced judges from RHB Bank Cambodia, who jointly hosted the event with Amazon Web Services.

The competitive hackathon was held with the aim of challenging the community to create technological initiatives and solutions, while searching for young talent for the future of the banking industry in Cambodia.

This initiative was spearheaded by the bank's human resources, retail banking, information technology and marketing departments.
