Tuesday May 17, saw the celebration of Gay Pride Cambodia 2016, under the banner “I am what I am”. This year’s gay pride week was celebrated in conjuction with International Anti Homophobia and Transphobia Day, and included a program of empowerment seminars, workshops, film screenings and parties to promote equality and understanding of the role of the LGBT community in Cambodian society. University professor, counselor, writer and researcher Srorn Srun is a long time Pride organiser and this year he was co-ordinating festival workshops with Rainbow Community Kampuchea and CAMasean Youth. Cambodia’s first Gay Pride celebration was held in 2004 by a small group of gay, lesbian and transgender activists in Phnom Penh, and has grown each year. Photo by Hong Menea
